1Stock moves because business moves
Stock in Dukaan POS changes in only three ways, which keeps it believable. Selling reduces it. Purchases from a supplier increase it. Adjustments correct it when reality differs: a physical count, damaged goods or expired goods. Every one of these is recorded with a date, a reason and who did it, and you can open the stock history of any product.

2Selling by the bag, the carton or the kilo
You buy a 50 kg bag of sugar and sell by the kilo, the 5 kg pack and the bag. Dukaan POS keeps one stock figure in the base unit and converts the packages for you: sell 2.5 kg and a 5 kg pack and the figure falls by 7.5 kg. Base units include kg, g, litre, ml, piece, packet, bottle, box, tube and sachet, and packages such as bag, carton, crate, tray, dozen and multipack hold a number of base units. You can set a price for each package or let it be worked out from the base price.
Without a system
- Stock counted by eye
- Surprise stock-outs
- Cash locked in slow items
With Dukaan POS
- Stock updated with each sale and delivery
- Low and out-of-stock lists
- Valuation shows where money sits
3Low stock and expiry warnings
For each product you can set a minimum level. When stock falls to it, the item appears in the low-stock list and in your notifications. For items with expiry dates, entering the expiry when you receive a purchase lets the app warn you when goods are approaching it. This is a reminder to go and check the shelf, not a batch-by-batch tracking system.
🧮 When should I reorder?
Reorder point = daily sales x delivery days + a safety buffer.
4Counting and correcting
No record is perfect. A regular count of your best sellers, entered as a count adjustment, corrects the difference and keeps a note of it. Damaged and expired items can be written off with a reason. If a staff member with stock-only access proposes a correction, it waits as a request until the owner or manager approves it, so figures cannot be changed quietly.
5What your stock is worth
The stock value report multiplies what you hold by the average cost of what you bought, so you can see how much money is sitting on your shelves. Used together with the sales report, it shows whether you are tying up too much cash in slow items.

?Questions about inventory management software for shops
What does inventory management software do?
It keeps an up-to-date count of every product, shows what is low or expiring, records purchases and losses, and tells you the value of your stock.
Does stock go down automatically when I sell?
Yes. Every saved sale reduces the stock of the items sold, in the right unit.
Can I sell more than I have?
No. The app will not let a sale take stock below zero, so you must add stock first or correct the count.
Can I track expiry dates?
You can enter expiry dates when receiving goods and get warnings as they approach. It does not track individual batches.
Can I see the value of my stock?
Yes. The stock value report shows what your stock is worth at average cost.
