Chicken shop POS software for daily rates, kg billing and wastage

Chicken prices change every day, margins are thin and unsold stock is lost. Chicken shop POS software should let you change the rate in seconds, bill by weight and record waste. Dukaan POS does that, but it does not convert live weight to dressed weight.

Read this first: where Dukaan POS fits and where it does not

Live-bird weight, dressing loss and skin-on or skinless yield are not calculated. You enter the sellable weight and your own cost per kilogram. The app handles billing, stock and credit, not the processing side.

1The daily rate

Each morning, update the selling price per kilogram on the products you sell. Every bill that day uses it, so nobody quotes yesterday's rate.

Illustrative example numbers to show the idea, not results from a real shop.

2Billing by weight

Enter the weight from the scale and the price is calculated. Whole, cut and boneless can be separate products with their own prices.

A good fit

  • Daily rate changes
  • Billing by weight
  • Wastage records

Not a fit

  • Live-weight conversion
  • Dressing yield
  • Processing

3Thin margins

A rupee change in the wholesale rate matters. Record each purchase with its true cost per sellable kilogram, and the profit report shows your actual margin per day.

Total profit

Margin is profit as a share of the selling price. Markup is profit as a share of cost.

4Wastage

Unsold chicken is a loss. Record it as a write-off at closing, and review the monthly figure to set the right quantity to buy.

5Hotels and regulars

Hotels and caterers buy large amounts and pay later. Give them a khata, and read the dues list weekly to keep balances short.

6Costs of cold storage

Record ice, freezers and electricity as expenses; the net profit report then shows the true result of the day.

7A worked example

You pay Rs 410 a kilo live and expect 68% sellable weight, so your cost per sellable kilo is about Rs 603. You set the price at Rs 680. On a day when you sell 140 kg, the margin is about Rs 10,700. If the market moves up by Rs 20 live, the cost moves by about Rs 29, and the price must follow.

8Changing the rate every morning

Open the product list, update the price on each cut and start billing. A routine of five minutes before opening keeps every bill at the current rate. If the market moves during the day, change it again, and the sales report shows each bill at the price used.

9Reading the daily result

At closing, check the daily sales, write off the unsold stock and read the profit. Over weeks, you will see which days earn well and which days lose to waste, and you can adjust how much you buy for each day of the week.

10What to test in the free trial

Add whole, cut and boneless products, change the rate, bill a few weights and write off unsold stock. Time the morning rate change: it should take a couple of minutes. If your need is live-weight conversion, keep your own sheet for that part and use the app for the counter.

11Credit to hotels and caterers

Hotels order large amounts every day and pay weekly or monthly, so a small shop can lock up a lot of cash. Check each account's balance when you take the order, set your own limit and chase the oldest date first. A weekly dues review is the difference between steady cash and a long wait for payment.
