1The three places a price can come from
Every product has a retail price and an optional wholesale price per base unit. A package, such as a 10 kg bag or a carton, can have its own retail and wholesale price. And a wholesale customer can have a special rate for a product. When you add an item to a sale, the app picks the price in a fixed order, so the cashier never has to decide.

2The order of choice
In a retail sale, the package's retail price is used if it has one; otherwise the base retail price is multiplied by the package size. In a wholesale sale, a customer's special rate is used first; then the package's wholesale price; then the base wholesale price multiplied by the package size. If no wholesale price exists at all, the retail price is used, so a missing price never leaves a blank.

3A worked example
Sugar costs Rs 138 per kg. The base retail price is Rs 150 and the base wholesale price Rs 146. A 50 kg bag has no price of its own.
| Sale | Price used | How |
|---|---|---|
| Retail, 2 kg | Rs 300 | 2 × Rs 150 |
| Retail, 1 bag | Rs 7,500 | 50 × Rs 150 |
| Wholesale, 1 bag | Rs 7,300 | 50 × Rs 146 |
| Wholesale to Hotel Noor, who has a special rate of Rs 7,150 per bag | Rs 7,150 | customer rate first |
🧮 Profit and margin calculator
Margin is profit as a share of the selling price. Markup is profit as a share of cost.
4Changing a price at the counter
Normally the price comes from the rules. The owner or a manager can override a line price during a sale when they need to; cashiers cannot, so special deals are not made at the counter by accident. Discounts on the whole bill are entered separately, and only if allowed.
5Check your margin as prices change
Because cost updates with each purchase, you can compare the retail and wholesale prices with the average cost and see your margin on each. In the example above, a Rs 7,150 bag against a Rs 6,900 cost leaves Rs 250, so a 3.5 percent margin, a prompt to check whether the hotel's rate still makes sense.
